Follow me, as I journey into music production in the Electronic Music Production Program @ Dubspot. www.dubspot.com 5/28/09 I’m working on my homework for class. I had to get another demo version and I think I’ll have the same compatibility problems with this version. I wrote the company to let them know and ask if anything I’ve done with the demo version would be inaccessible when I purchase the full version. It shouldn’t be the case. I’ll have to wait and see. I had a little bit of time to play with the assignment…I mean a little bit (like a half an hour). I saved new versions of the files that I wanted to update, so that I would not make my current files inaccessible for class, and started playing around with the sounds to compose a loop. I started with a bass loop and recognized little things like how the intervals sounded in my note selection and how much time between notes created the sounds that I wanted. I also noted the length of the notes in a loop that I liked the sound of and tested varying lengths in my loop. I came up with a bass loop for my track and added a kick pattern as well. I soloed the kick and the bass during composition to isolate them and see what worked. I moved to chords next and this was easier for me tonight as I understood where the sounds could go. I was in more familiar territory and created a simple loop with a few notes that worked with my track as a whole. It filled in quite nicely when the layers of the track were played together. I’ll play with this more over the weekend. I tested the pad and created a simple pattern that worked but it felt lost in the mix. I will test a more vibrant part and see if I can make it something to solo. I didn’t have time to experiment with all of the sounds to see what could come together. Free association is helping in my note selection. I’m staying in a 1-octave range and using notes within a 5 th to compose for now. I’ll widen the range, as I grow more comfortable with composing.
