Articles March 2009 - Issue 1, vol. 1 Where Have All The Newsmen Gone? |
State vs. Private College by Kyran Weigh the return on the investment. Truthfully while you do get a great education with decorated staff and top of the line facilities the payoff is still the same as for those that attend state schools. Your main leverage is whom you know when you come out but the salaries will not differ because of that you just might be ahead of the line. Can schools justify the expense? Tell it to the millions still paying off student loans. Myself included. Also almost everyone that I went to school with has ended up on markedly different careers or gone on for further education to change fields. I can say that I have a backup that I refuse to use in favor of my passion fir music and art...oh and writing. I've struggled at points and made some hard decisions but I would not rewrite my journey by one step. I've learned a lot and I'm deeply grateful for what life has allowed me to attempt. If you are ok a similar path keep going...and if not find one. You'll never regret the choice. Did my university help me with that? Partly. Had I not gone there my life would be dramatically different, but I am not doing what I studied. Am I alone? In this age of bloggers and web based enterprise, I think not. College in the 1990's did not foresee 2009. If life is an evolution then how can learning stop at your degree and what should the price tag be if it does?
